Learn how to make an effective rc jump to provide lots of enjoyment for you and your buddies

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • dirt (amount varries on size of jump)
  • shovel (flat works best)
  • rake
  • water
  • lawn roller or sutable tire
  • old plasic tarp
  • 2 stakes
  • piece of string
  1. Step 1

Find location of jump and mark with shovel by scraping ground

  2. Step 2

Start to pile up the dirt in a mound in the general shape of the jump. Now take the rake and get the "general design" of the jump down. Stand back and make shure that it isn't slanted to one side or another.

  3. Step 3

Now that the jump is shaped, start to slowly water down the jump, shooting it at a high angle with a misting style nozzle works extremely well for slowly soaking the soil. Once the soil starts "shedding" water from the surface, stop, let it soak for about a minute and repeat again.

  4. Step 4

Place a tarp over the jump and slowly roll with either a car tire, or a lawn roller. When removing the tarp, make shure that it gets slid off to the side of the jump or soil will stick to it, and you will have to fix your mistake.

  5. Step 5

Now that the jump is smoothed out, wait about 24-36 hours before using, make shure that it is dry on the surface before using again.

  6. Step 6

If making a landing jump, test the jump out with your car going slightly slower than it normally does and find where it lands, repeat the above steps to make the landing

Tips & Warnings
  • Make shure to sift the soil for rocks, twigs and other debries that can cause it to fall apart over time
  • Having a smooth transition from the ground to the jump helps the car more efficently get in the air, thus you get more speed and distance out of it
  • A smoothly sloping jump with a very low leingth to rise ratio will yield a very long distance with not very much altitude
  • A steeply sloping jump with a higher leingth to rise ratio will yield more altitude than distance
  • If a jump is out of a corner on a track, make it steeper as it is easier for you to level out the car in midair
  • If a jump is on a straightaway, make it more smoothly transitioning, thus the car will travel a distance before landing
  • The higher you make the jump, the more likely you are to break stuff
  • Make shure to soak the jump well or it will crack and flake
  • DO NOT drive on the jump after it has just been packed down, the tires will do a nice job of tearing up your hard work
  • I claim no responsibility for damaged cars or injuries caused by flying RC vehicles
