Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Need to remind yourself that you want to save money on your electricity bill. write it on a piece of paper and put it where you will see it every day. example: write it a piece of paper and stick it o
  1. Step 1

Change all of your light bulbs to fluorescent light bulbs. They use 20 to 50 percent less energy and last ten times longer than incandescent light bulbs (according to Con Ed). Turn off all lights if you are leaving a room. During summer don't leave the fans running if you are not in the room. Don't leave the television running if you are leaving the room and don't fall asleep with the tv on.

  2. Step 2

during the day turn off all the lights and open the window shades. If needed use a lamp when necessary for dark areas then turn it off. If you are planning a trip and the house or apartment is going to be empty unplug all appliances from the outlets. It is safer and the appliances such as toaster microwave oven or blender will not use any electricity.

  3. Step 3

Next time you have to replace an appliance replace it with a energy star product, it may cost just a few dollar more but it will be worth it in the long run. This is my last advice and it is a bit difficult try to figure out what you want from the refrigerator before opening it 10 times and looking around in it. you get charged every time you open it.

Tips & Warnings
