Things You'll Need:
- Newspaper
- Potting Soil
- Larger Size pot
- Scoop (can be anything from kids sandbox shovel to an old measuring scoop)
- Water
-
Step 1
First, find a comfortable location to use as a work area. Either the floor or counter/table. Begin by laying down a layer of newspaper to make clean up easy. Bring plant, new pot, and potting soil to work area.
-
Step 2
Next, make sure new pot is roomy enough to allow the plant to stretch it's roots out. Remember not only will the new pot hold the plant, but you will have to add some additional dirt.
Usually, this means going one pot size up. You could even go two pot sizes up if you really wanted to encourage your plant to grow very large. -
Step 3
Then gently shake the plant loose from the old pot. Check over the root ball to make sure the plant is still healthy. If the plant is very root bound you can gently pry some of the roots loose to encourage new growth.
Place a few scoops of potting soil in the new pot. Arrange the plant in the center of the new pot. Slowly add potting soil around the plant, until it is snugly in place in the pot. Lightly tamp the dirt down to make sure your plant is firmly in place. -
Step 4
Finally, slowly add water until your plant is thoroughly watered.
