India is the country that makes the most movies in the world. Among the best movies are the ones that belong to the Hindi cinema category. Hindi movies are becoming more popular around the world. The centers of the movie makers are based in several areas, since the Hindi cinema is broken down into regions with certain languages, such as Hindi, Tamil, Bengali or Telugu. The regional dances, music and other considerations are kept in mind by the casting agents when looking for stars for the new movies. This makes it important to have a deep understanding of the folklore and traditions of a region, since many films are based on these and integrate such elements.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Resume
  • Agent
  • Head Shots
  1. Step 1

Move to a center of action for Hindi cinema. By living close to where the movie industry talent scouts and casting companies are located, you will have a greater chance of auditioning and getting cast. Mumbai is an example of a city involved in the Indian movie industry, as well as Chennai and Calcutta.

  2. Step 2

Ask talent agencies about good acting schools. Taking classes will improve your techniques and maybe if you are good someone will hear about you and approach you with a job offer. It can also be added to your resume and will make you seem like a more serious candidate. Such a reputation is a big help when aspiring to become a leading actress in Hindi cinema.

  3. Step 3

Draft your resume. A resume includes background information about you, a photo, related working experience and education in the field. It is recommended to have a professional writer draft your resume, because this is what makes you stand out in the crowd. Standing out is extremely difficult to do in an industry that receive thousands of applications for roles in the various firms.

  4. Step 4

Send your resume to all the people involved in hiring casts, such as directors or agents, for Hindi cinema. Regardless of how well known they are or not, they must all have a copy of your resume in order for them to even consider you for a role, much less a leading role. This resume must also be updated whenever necessary and you should send an email or letter to the responsible parties and let them know that you are still available for work.

  5. Step 5

Keep up with trade news. Read trade magazines and local newspapers. Pay attention to any casting calls or open auditions. Contact those organizing these events and send them your resume. Do not wait for someone to contact you, go and get in touch with them and arrange any kind of audition you can to show them how well you perform.

  6. Step 6

Never turn down invitations. You may be asked to go to a party, a meeting or even an informal information session and all of these may give you the break you have been waiting for. Since you never know when your big chance will come, take advantage of all opportunities and offers that come your way.

  7. Step 7

To find information on castings or finding agents you should look in magazines and newspapers of the area you want to work in. There are many resources that can be used in order to become a leading actress in Hindi cinema.

Tips & Warnings
  • Although most actresses are from India, there are also stars that are from other countries. For the most part they do have Indian heritage or are at least part Indian, as with many of the actresses from the UK.
  • There is one major problem that foreign actresses have, and that is that they need a residency permit in order to be able to stay and work in India. A regular visa does not allow a foreign actress to actually earn money in any fashion while in India.
