How to Grow Ginseng at Home

Ginseng is greatly valued in the Asian culture being used for many conditions including fatigue, mental fogginess and impotence. Ginseng does not grow in full sunlight and therefore is typically found in the shade of hardwood forests. Ginseng is a slow growing plant that can take several years to produce results. To grow this plant at home you will need lots of patience and perseverance.

Instructions

    • 1

Pick a shady location to plant the Ginseng seeds.

    • 2

Plant seeds 1/2-inch deep about 4 to 6 inches apart. If you are planting several rows, space the rows about 6 to 8 inches apart.

    • 3

Cover the seeds with top soil.

    • 4

Water the seeds well. Ginseng seeds need lots of water to grow well, so water them daily.

    • 5

Cover the seeds with about 1 inch of mulch. Mulch keeps the seeds moist and protects them from frost.

Tips & Warnings

  • Plant seeds in the fall before the first frost.

  • Do not plant in open sunny areas as Ginseng needs lots of shade to grow and thrive.

  • Do not use straw or hay for mulch.
