How to Play the Raga Malasri Scale on the Guitar

The Indian ragas are sequences of notes that are meant to be played at specific times of the day. The Raga Malasri is interesting in that it closely resembles the arpeggio of a traditional Western major scale. Try exploring the Raga Malasri on your guitar by following these steps.

Things You'll Need:

  • Guitar
  1. Step 1

    Begin by placing your middle finger on the fifth fret of the sixth string (low E string). This is the root note of the scale.

  2. Step 2

    Play the fourth fret of the fifth string (A string) with your forefinger. This is the note C sharp, the second degree of the Raga Malasri scale.

  3. Step 3

    Play the seventh fret of the fifth string with your ring finger. This is the note E, the third degree of the Raga Malasri scale.

  4. Step 4

    With your pinky, play the seventh fret of the fourth string (D string). This is the final note of the scale.

  5. Step 5

    Play the scale in reverse. Play Steps 4 through 1 in reverse order to complete the scale. That's it, you now know how to play the Raga Malasri scale on the guitar.
