Learning how to insert a page break into a Microsoft Word document allows you to start a new page from anywhere within the document. This can be useful when separating information, leaving room to later insert pictures, or when needing an area to insert text to at a later date.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Turn your computer on and start up the Microsoft Word program.

  2. Step 2

Open the Microsoft Word document that you wish to insert a page break into.

  3. Step 3

Move your mouse to the exact location that you want the page break to occur, and left click once to move your cursor to that spot. You should now see your cursor blinking in your chosen location.

  4. Step 4

Click the "Insert" option from the menu bar at the top of the page.

  5. Step 5

Select "Break" from the drop down menu that is available. This will cause an options window to pop up with choices for the break menu.

  6. Step 6

Choose the "Page break" option from the available menu, by clicking the radial button next to it.

  7. Step 7

Determine if you want the page break to repeat at certain intervals by choosing, next page, continuous, even page, or odd page if needed. If you only want a page break in the original place that you selected with your cursor, then do not click any of the applicable radial buttons and only a single page break will be inserted.

  8. Step 8

Click the "Okay" button once you have chosen the options you want from open window. This will cause the window to close and your page break will be shown inserted into your document.

  9. Step 9

Pick the "Edit" option from the menu bar at the top of the screen, and then "Undo insertion" to delete the page break that you just created. If you do not like what you created, then simply delete it and make a new page break. Visit the resources below for more information on other Word functions.

Tips & Warnings
  • Place your cursor where you want your page break to be inserted, before beginning the insertion process.
