Creating new textures for your Poser clothing is one way to make your Poser art stand out. All you have to do is look at any of the Poser galleries and you can tell when a new piece of clothing has come out simply because everyone is using it, and they are using the textures that came with it, which aren't always the best. This tutorial will show you one way that you can create new textures for your Poser clothing.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Computer
  • Paint.net software
  • Poser software
  • Favorite piece of Poser clothing
  1. Step 1

Open Paint.net and go to the "File" drop-down menu and select "New." Give your new files the following parameters 200 width, 200 height and 200 resolution. This will make a 1-by-1 inch file.

  2. Step 2

Find or take a photo of a texture that has some bump to it, such as a piece of lace, wall, wood or homemade paper texture--anything that will add some definition to your completed texture.

  3. Step 3

Make the photo of your texture the same size as your file.

  4. Step 4

Go back to your new file and then go to the "Layers" drop-down menu and select "Add New Layer."

  5. Step 5

Open the "Layers" window if it isn't already open by going to the "Window" drop-down menu and selecting "Layers."

  6. Step 6

Deselect the "Background layer" by unchecking it. This should leave you with looking at the new layer which is just a square with white and gray squares.

  7. Step 7

Go to the "Edit" drop-down menu and select "Paste." This will paste the photo of your texture into that layer.

  8. Step 8

Go back and recheck the "Background layer." Depending on the texture you chose, you may notice a difference or you may not, but in most cases you won't see anything different until you change the mode on one of the layers.

  9. Step 9

Click on the second layer where you pasted the photo of your texture. This will bring up a "Layers Properties" window. Change the mode to "Screen." You should now notice a change in that the texture is now showing through the color you applied to your new file.

  10. Step 10

Go to the "Image" drop-down menu and select "Flatten." This will merge both layers into one.

  11. Step 11

Save your picture/texture in whatever your desired format is.

  12. Step 12

Open Poser, add your chosen piece of Poser clothing to the viewing window and apply your new texture.

Tips & Warnings
  • Consider keeping your picture/texture small, since Poser wraps the JPEG around the piece of Poser clothing, and the smaller your picture, the more detail you'll be able to see. So, for example, if your photo texture was of a piece of lace, this will be more noticeable on a smaller picture once applied to your Poser clothing than a larger one.
