There may come a time when you need to start up your Windows XP system in Safe Mode, as when you need to uninstall certain malware - viruses, Trojans, adware, etc that cannot be removed while in standard mode. Read on to learn how to start up Windows XP in safe mode from the Start menu.

Instructions

      Close any programs you have open. Click on "Start" and then Run. Now type in: msconfig into the text box. Click OK.

      In the window that pops up, click on the BOOT.INI tab. Check the box for Check /SAFEBOOT. Click OK. This will open the System Configuration window.

      When prompted, click on Restart to reboot your computer. Your PC will now reboot in Safe Mode. Wait for the process to complete, as it may take a few minutes.

      Once you have resolved the issue you were working on, reset your PC to reboot in its default mode, rather than into Safe Mode. Simply repeat all the steps above, being sure to un-check the box next to /SAFEBOOT
