While it can be extremely hurtful to find out that your girlfriend is cheating, wondering if she’s cheating can take an even bigger toll. Random thoughts of her cheating may even interfere with your relationship. Making empty accusations won’t get you any closer to the truth. Learn the signs that will let you know if your girlfriend is cheating before you waste any more of your time.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Listen to the rumors. While rumors may not be totally accurate, they may shed light on inappropriate behavior. Although trust is important in a relationship, don’t be blinded by your affection for your girlfriend. The persistence of rumors may indicate there is something for you to investigate further. Everybody is not out to ruin your relationship or your girlfriend’s reputation. Consider the source and timing of the allegations as you decide if the information is trustworthy.

  2. Step 2

Notice changes in your girlfriend’s behavior. A sudden change in her daily routine may indicate she’s cheating. Pay attention to the way she interacts with you to determine if something is missing from your relationship. An increase in the frequency and intensity of your arguments may be a signal that she’s feeling guilty about something. You should observe her behavior without letting her know you’re doing so to see her true behavior.

  3. Step 3

Look for physical evidence. A simple search of her cell phone could reveal strange activity. Search for clues whenever you visit her house or ride in her car. Notice small changes like the car seat being moved or the toilet seat being left up. Your girlfriend may have brothers or close male friends so be careful to keep suspicions to yourself until you have a sufficient amount of evidence.

  4. Step 4

Ask your girlfriend. Use the direct method instead of going to her friends. Your girlfriend may not even tell her friends if she’s cheating. Look her in the eyes as you explain your concerns. Pay close attention to her body language when you ask her important questions regarding her actions and inactions. Express that you just want to know the truth so you can make your own decisions.

  5. Step 5

Follow your gut instinct. Sometimes you just know things without having to second-guess yourself. No amount of denials and crying can make up for the sinking feeling you have in the pit of your stomach. After you’ve taken all the evidence into consideration, it’s time to follow your gut.

Tips & Warnings
  • Making unfounded accusations could make your girlfriend suspicious of your activities.
  • Ask your girlfriend about specific dates and circumstances to test her story.
  • Never completely trust the words of your girlfriend. Use her actions as well as your feelings to draw your conclusions.
