My children are forever breaking their crayons. I hate throwing things away, especially when I know that I just purchased them. This is a great way to recycle those broken crayons.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Old crayons
  • microwave safe plastic container
  • paper cupcake liners
  1. Step 1

Peel all of the paper off of your old crayons.

  2. Step 2

Break each crayon into 1/2 inch pieces and place into microwave safe container.

  3. Step 3

Melt the crayons on high for three minutes or until they are mostly melted.

  4. Step 4

Take two of your paper cup cake wrappers and stack them on inside of the other. Pour the wax into your double cup cake wrapper.

  5. Step 5

Let the new crayons cool, to make this step faster you can place them into the freezer for about five minutes. When they are hardened you can remove them by inverting the paper.

  6. Step 6

Viola! You have a new crayon the can color in multiple colors at the same time.

Tips & Warnings
  • I have used all of the same color just in varying shades to create a variegated look.
  • When crayons come out of the microwave be extra careful because the wax could cause severe burns.

on 1/25/2009 To avoid just throwing out broken crayons, I end up using them for everything from grocery lists to phone messages (very classy!lol) Now, finally, I can do something fun and constructive with them. Thanks for another great idea!
