Styrofoam meat, fruit and vegetable trays are not accepted at recycling centers. According to the New York Times, America is throwing away 4 billion Styrofoam trays a week in New York City's Schools alone. That averages to about 850,000 a day. Help save the Earth by recycling Styrofoam trays creatively with crafts and other activities.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 Styrofoam trays, washed and dried
  • Silver acrylic paint
  • Paint brush
  • Tacky glue
  • Small Gem Embellishments
  • Silver ribbon 1/4 inch wide
  • Scissors
  • Star cookie cutter
  1. Step 1

    With your star cookie cutter, trace around it on one of the trays. Cut it out.

  2. Step 2

    Lay the cut star inside the second try and paint the star with silver acrylic paint. Let dry, and paint the other side. Let dry.

  3. Step 3

    Glue on embellishments. Let dry.

  4. Step 4

    Turn face down, and glue on ribbon for a hanger the length of your choice. Let dry.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use any shape of cookie cutter and other paint colors, such as a Christmas Tree, Angel, Bell, or cut out the shape of a snowman.
  • These make great gifts, and hostess gifts.
  • Always use caution with scissors when children are helping.
