You will learn an age old recipe on how to cure the common cold.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 Large Mug 2 Cups Boiling Water 1 Heaping tablespoon of Honey Juice of one lemon ¼ cup good whiskey
  1. Step 1

You will learn how to make a Hot Toddy.
Ok, here's the deal. At the first sign of a cold if you follow this simple process your cold will be gone within 24 hours (48 hours if you're over 50).

You know when you're coming down with something. For most of us, it's hard to tell the boss, "I'm coming down with something and I am going home to take care of myself". Most of us wait until we're well into the symptoms so the boss "knows" we're sick. Okay, so that's where we are with this remedy, whops, I mean process.

Go home, get everyone fed, homework's complete, dishes done, tomorrow's lunches made (yeah right), etc.

    1. Boil 2 cups of water (if you can't find a tea kettle, find a pot, put water in, put on stove, turn that little knob to high, when little bubbles start appearing on the surface, it's almost ready, when big bubbles appear, we in the industry call it a rolling boil, you're ready to continue).

    2. Find your biggest coffee mug, pour about ½ cup of boiling water into the mug and then dump it out (this is called "heating the mug").

    3. Take a heaping tablespoon (if you can't find the tablespoon, use a soup spoon, that's the one that's a little bigger than a teaspoon-also, there's three teaspoons in a tablespoon, so that should help) of honey (not sugar please-I'll tell you why in a second, don't want to disturb the process) and put it in the hot mug.

    4. Squeeze juice of one lemon (lemon is alkaline to the system unless it is mixed with sugar and then it turns acidic and you'll get a stomach ache) and pour it over the honey that's already melting in the hot mug.

    5. Add a shot (don't use one of those little shot glasses that your grandparents used, use a good ¼ cup) (if you can't find a measuring cup, there are 4 tablespoons in a ¼ cup, and you already know about tablespoons because we covered that in #3) of good whiskey (you can use brandy if you must, but it's not authentic) over the now warm honey and freshly squeezed lemon.

    6. Add the remaining boiled water to your mixture to fill mug. (throw out the remaining water, don't let the mug overflow).

  2. Step 2

    7. Now, the important part. Put spoon in mug and stir as you are walking to your bed holding the mug under your nose and inhaling the vapors. Hopefully, you have already turned on the electric blanket and are in your jammies. Sit by edge of bed, continue stirring the mixture and inhaling the vapors. Sip, but don't burn your tongue. Keep sipping until cool enough to throw down the remainder. Turn out the light, get under the covers and go to sleep. Do not, repeat, do not, go out after drinking this concoction.

  3. Step 3

You may wake up in the middle of the night in a full sweat....this is a good sign, the impurities are exiting the body. Don't get up and change, remain in your little sauna and go back to sleep. A little wet nighty and sheets are not going to kill you.

Okay, I've made a little joke here, but believe me, this remedy, following the process of course, does work for many people. It was handed down to me by my dearly departed Italian Father, however, my dearly departed Yugoslavian Mother would beg to differ. Many family fights about this. Anyway, works for me ... hope it works for you.

on 1/11/2010 So, I sat down one day to write the Hot Toddy recipe for "How To" and the words to the Article just spewed out...Friends, I'm not a writer and have no idea where the words came from, but I couldn't stop laughing as I was writing it and thought others would get a kick out of it as well (no pun intended). One day, I'll go in and update so I don't offend any one species, but seriously folks, it's not meant to be taken literally. Furthermore, I've had $21K people read the article and more folks thought it was funny rather than derogotary to men. And I had the opportunity to try the Toddy last week as I was coming down with a cold and voila, it still works. That's all friends.

on 1/11/2010 P.S.: It will be normally deemed offensive to a particular group (ie: men) if they are singled out numerous times as if that particular group needs additional information to perform task, and no other group may need info. And women wonder why their man doesn't draw them a hot bath and light candles whenever they get the sniffles.

on 11/25/2009 Thanks JellyBean...you made my day. The other two comments made me feel bad. Of course, it wasn't meant to be derogatory to men...I'm married to one...and, it was my Mom who couldn't boil water when she married my Dad. Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving, and be sure and heat the cup before you make the toddy, makes all the difference in the world. JustGinny
