This article will help you upgrade an Intel Mac Book pro laptop. My laptop is 15.4 inch 2.4 Ghz and circa October 2007.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 precision Phillipp's head screwdriver size 00.
  • Upgrade RAM module(s). Should be SODIMM DDR2 PC2-5300. You can max with 4GB or two 2GB modules.
  • A cloth at least as large as the cover of the Mac Book Pro.
  1. Step 1

Unplug the power cord from your Mac Book pro.

  2. Step 2

Lay out the cloth on a flat, clean surface free from obstructions and clutter. Lay your Mac Book Pro (MBP for short) on the cloth upside down.

  3. Step 3

Remove the laptop battery by sliding the two notched bars towards yourself.

  4. Step 4

You will see a silver cover with 3 Phillipp's head screws. Remove them with the size 00 precision screw driver. Slide the cover towards you a a bit and lift it up. You will now see the RAM modules exposed.

  5. Step 5

Now, you can stop here and use the instructions on the back side of the MBP or you can continue to follow. Both will say roughly the same thing.
Holding the modules on either side are black pins. I usually put one thumb on each and gently push outward. The module will begin to lift slightly. Move your thumbs in while still applying pressure and pop it up. Then gently pull the top most module out first by lifting it to 35 or 45 degrees. Anywhere in between is fine to. Now, simply slide it out. Repeat for the second module on the bottom if you wish to change both modules.

  6. Step 6

To install simply slide the new modules in at the same angle as before and press down. The pins will automatically lock the module in place.

Tips & Warnings
  • RAM modules are sensitive to static shock. So make sure to lick your finger and touch something metal to ground yourself before handling RAM modules. Also you could just spend $5 on a static bracelet.
  • Always remove all power sources when replacing or upgrading computer parts. Unplug the machine and any battery sources ( but not anything on the motherboard!)
