If you're considering taking out a student loan, follow these steps to find the best student loan interest rate in your area.

Instructions
  1. Step 1

    Visit bankrate.com and select 'College Finance' from the menu across the top of the page.

  2. Step 2

    'College rates by state' should already be in the drop down box. Click on 'Go'.

  3. Step 3

    Select your state, and then your city, clicking 'Next' each time.

  4. Step 4

    Choose from the following types of loans:

    Stafford loan
    PLUS loan
    Private loan
    Home equity loan

    Click 'Next'.

  5. Step 5

    The results page will give you a listing of lending institutions, along with the date, rate, name of product, and fees and conditions. You can choose to sort the results by any of these criteria.
