How to Cheaply Deep Condition Your Hair

How to Cheaply Deep Condition Your Hair thumbnail
Olive oil is an inexpensive hair conditioner.

Professional salon haircare products can be very costly, but the inexpensive products don't work as well and are mostly water. You probably have natural ingredients in your home that will work just as well as some of the expensive products. An olive oil hair treatment, for example, is good for your hair and will leave it silky and shiny. It's easy to condition long hair all day long, letting the natural heat from your scalp activate the oil. Condition short or long hair overnight with the added protein from the eggs in mayonnaise. Does this Spark an idea?

Instructions

  1. Long Hair-Daytime

    • 1

Comb your dry hair and use the comb to part your hair in the middle.

    • 2

Pour some olive oil into the palm of your hand, about the size of a quarter. Rub your palms together to spread the oil on both palms.

    • 3

Rub the olive oil into the right side of your hair. Start from the middle of the hair shaft and rub your hair down to the ends.

    • 4

Pour another quarter-sized dollop of olive oil into one hand and rub your palms together. Rub this oil into the hair on the left side from mid-shaft to the ends.

    • 5

Comb your hair as you normally would, and place it into a high pony tail at the crown of your head with a hair elastic. Twist the pony tail, and wind it around the elastic. Pin it in place with a few hair pins.

    • 6

Wear the hairstyle all day, and the olive oil will deep condition your hair. Wash your hair that night or the next morning. Since you're only using a small amount of oil, your hair will not appear greasy, and the oil will be absorbed into your hair.

    Long or Short Hair-Overnight

    • 7

Mix 1/2 cup of mayonnaise with 1/4 cup of olive oil. Smooth this mixture onto your dry hair before you go to bed. Massage it into your scalp with your fingertips.

    • 8

Cover your head with a plastic shower cap. Use a hair dryer for five minutes on the cap to open the hair shafts so the treatment will deeply penetrate. Wear the shower cap to bed.

    • 9

Wash your hair in the morning with shampoo. Rinse with cold water to instill shine into your hair.

Tips & Warnings

  • For the daytime olive oil treatment, your hair can be styled in any type of hairstyle that will allow it to sit near the heat of your scalp.

  • Avoid adding more than a quarter-sized dollop of olive oil or your hair may appear greasy.
