These are the rich, and delicious, Hermits that my Grandmother had on hand, in generous supply, whenever we visited. My favourite!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 1 cup butter
  • 1 1/2 cups brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 cup raisins
  • 1 1/2 cups chopped dates
  • 1 cup coarsly chopped walnuts
  • 2 1/4 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon allspice
  1. Step 1

Heat oven to 350 degrees. Butter cookie pans. This recipe makes about 5 dozen cookies.

In a large bowl, cream together the butter and brown sugar. Add the egg and blend well.

  2. Step 2

Mix together the flour, baking powder, salt, cinnamon and allspice. Add the flour mixture, alternately with the sour milk, to the butter mixture and blend well after each addition.

Mix in the raisins, dates, and nuts.

  3. Step 3

Drop by teaspoonfuls onto the buttered pans and bake for approximately 10 minutes. The cookies are done when they slide easily on the pan. Cool on racks. Enjoy!
