Believe it or not, junk mail is not as inevitable as death and taxes. AND, junk mail has an inescapable negative effect on the environment.

Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • The time and motivation to respond to unsolicited mail
  1. Step 1

    On every warranty card, donation card, and contest entry card, write" Do NOT rent or sell my name/address to anyone".

  2. Step 2

    Call the toll-free number on any catalog label, and request that they no longer send you mailings. You can also fax the catalog label, with the same instructions--addressed - Atten:Customer Service.

  3. Step 3

    With first class mail, crossing out the address and bar code, circling postage and mark :Return to Sender" will prompt solicitations to cease.
    This only works on bulk mail, if the label reads" address correction requested".

  4. Step 4

    Send a postcard or letter with $1 to MAIL PREFERENCE SERVICE,
    Direct Marketing Assoc.
    PO Box 282
    Carmel, NY 15012
    Direct them to "ACTVATE THE PREFERENCE SERVICE"
    You'll find tat this will save you tons of unwanted mail for 5 years.

Tips & Warnings
  • Sharing of personal and financial information is out of control, and this point is reflected by the huge increase in junk mail.
  • Save yourself the grief of dealing with this AND save a tree.
  • At first, time and effort is involved, but lessens as the junk mailings becomes fewer and fewer..
