How to make fancy napkin folds for your next party

I'm always looking for inexpensive & time-saving ways to make my parties special. Making fancy folded napkins into decorative shapes is easy with a little practice and doesn't cost that much and can be done ahead of time. Beg, borrow or steal (in a pinch, buy) cheap cloth napkins and fold them a week ahead of your party. Mix or match for an eclectic look; use pastels and floral patterns in the spring, anniversaries or Mother's Day; use bright colors and patterns for summer parties, luaus and fiestas; mix red, green, and gold for holidays. You can even go formal with solid black and white napkins or add a color to compliment your decor or your outfit.

Things You'll Need:

• Inexpensive cloth napkins for guests and, if so desired, to cover dishes on table

1. Decide on color and/or pattern of napkin desired.

2. Choose style of napkin fold.

3. Configure number of napkins needed. Figure one for each guest, a few extra and possible a few to cover the serving dishes.

Tips & Warnings

• Procure and fold napkins a week ahead of time. Place on a cookie sheet and store where they won't be disturbed until the party.
