Things You'll Need:
- Vinegar
- Paper towels
- Stain remover
- Baking soda
- Pet repellent
-
Step 1
Use equal parts vinegar and water to clean the area. Blot up excess moisture with paper towels. Repeat for more stubborn odors.
-
Step 2
Sprinkle baking soda on the area and let it stand anywhere from a few hours to overnight. Vacuum up any residue after it sits.
-
Step 3
Try a spot remover made for carpets and upholsteries there are many solutions on the market made specifically for pet stains and odors.
-
Step 4
Rent a carpet cleaner if the staining is extensive or if the urine has soaked down underneath your carpet pad. Use a carper solution made specifically for pet problems in the machine for good measure. Don't use the heated or steam kind of cleaning machine, as this can actually set the stain due to the heat. Much like drying an article of clothing that has a stain, heat makes it set in.
-
Step 5
Avoid having your pet go back to the same spot you just cleaned by using a pet repellent. These sprays are safe for your pet, yet discourage them from soiling areas repeatedly. Make sure you follow the directions precisely as repeated treatment is often necessary. These repellents can be purchased at any pet store or mass retailer.

on 12/11/2008 I am a dog breeder and have a dog grooming business.
I deal with all sorts of odors including skunk odors. There's one product on the market that stands head and shoulders above all else. It doesn't remove stains but it will eliminate any severe odor.and I mean any!
It's called Room Shocker you can find it on the website http://wwwbiocidesystems.com
