Pickleing onions does not have to involve cooking, all they need is time to marinate!

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • small onions, preferably shallots
  • One cup of sea salt
  • 8 cups hot water
  • Malt vinegar
  • Pickleing seasoning
  • Canning jar
  1. Step 1

Mix hot water and sea salt. Stir to dissolve all of the sea salt in the water. When dissolved, submerge all of the onions in the salt water. Use a heavy lid on the container to make sure that all of the onions stay completely submerged. Let onions soak for 48 hours. Remove the onions and dry.

  2. Step 2

Pack a mason jar tightly with the onions. Add your pickling seasoning to the jar. The amount of seasoning you will use can vary by brand and flavor, so read the directions on the back of the packet to see how much you will need. Pour malt vinegar over the onions to fill the jar. There should be no room left at the top.

  3. Step 3

Cover and let marinate for as long as you would like. I recommend a minimum of one week, but the longer the better! They are best if marinated for a couple of months!
