How to Find More Time to Devote to Your Passion for Writing

The act/craft of writing is a solitary activity. But, in the day-to-day grind of our busy lives, how does one find some isolated time to devote to the passion of writing?

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions
  1. Step 1

Give yourself permission to write Sometimes it's just that simple; we only make it harder, perhaps out of fear-a fear of failure, and yes, even a fear of success.

  2. Step 2

Make sure you are truly isolating yourself when you are writing, and not using your writing time to stay connected to other people, via the Internet, blogs, and yes, even by becoming a part of an on-line writing-that's not writing.

  3. Step 3

Be willing to distance your self a little from your responsibilities to others. Just like a mother bear that doesn't really sleep very deeply during her hibernation, taking instead a series of long naps in which she is still capable of nursing and nurturing her cubs. You don't have to abandon your family or friends entirely; they know you are there for them, and if they need you they will find you-trust me on this! And you might actually be surprised how accommodating your family and friends can be when they actually see you setting aside time to focus intently on writing, instead of just talking about how much you'd like to set aside time to write.

  4. Step 4

You don't really have to clean the house every day . . . do you? It's OK to take little breaks from the excesses of the daily drain of cooking, cleaning, shopping, running errands etc. Just be sure to use your "little breaks" to actually write and not call a friend to tell them about how you are going to start making some extra time for yourself to write.

  5. Step 5

Shop in bulk for food-and then only for what is essential. And when you cook, cook in bulk and learn to use a crock pot.

  6. Step 6

Prioritize, condense, and try to delegate as many errands as possible to the other members of your household.

  7. Step 7

Keep in mind that finding time to write is a mind-set, and that all writers who seek and/or need isolation to help generate creative momentum can if they set their mind to it, achieve their goals, even if for only a month, a week, and even if just for an hour each day.
