How to make Salt Water Taffy

Saltwater taffy is a fun and easy candy to make. You can create new flavors or stick with old favorites.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 TBS real butter
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup light corn syrup
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 2/3 cup water
  • 1 TBS cornstarch
  • 1 tsp flavoring of choice
  • food coloring (if desired)
  • 8 x8 square pan
  • saucepan
  1. Step 1

    Grease a 8 x 8 x 2 sqaure-inch pan with the butter

  2. Step 2

    In a saucepan mix together the sugar, corn syrup, salt, water and cornstarch. Cook over medium heat until a candy thermometer reads 256 degrees farenheit. Stir the mixture occasionally.

  3. Step 3

    Remove from the heat at once and add any color and desired flavoring, stir to incorporate. Pour directly into the buttered pan and allow to cool

  4. Step 4

    Pull the taffy until it is light in color and stiff. Pull into 2-inch strips, cut and wrap in waxed paper.
