Instructions

    • 1

Don't put a computer in your teenager' s bedroom. It's too easy to become distracted from schoolwork and spend time socializing with friends. Put the computer in a room that is easy to monitor.

    • 2

Don't let your teenager have a regular job during the school year. Babysitting or mowing lawns on weekends is fine, but a regular job after school will cut into study time and extra school activities.

    • 3

Set up a regular study time. You can check your child's assignments by going on the school' s website. Most teachers post the assignments.

    • 4

When parent/teacher conferences are scheduled, don't ask the teacher if your child can do extra work to bring up a grade. Instead, find out why your child isn't doing well with the original assigned work. Take your teenager to the meeting, so you can hear both sides of the story.

    • 5

Let your teenager know that you understand that school is stressful. It is. It's much different than it was just 20 years ago. Support them, guide them, but don't try to always fix it for them. They've got to learn to manage their time and figure out how to solve problems.

Tips & Warnings

  • Keep open communication with your teenager's teachers.

Excellent excellent tactics. No. 1 I'm in 1000% agreement with. It was years before I could get a TV in my room as a child. Tell 'em Hapworth. :)
