Step 1
Make food fun. Kids love it when their food looks neat to eat. Get creative. Instead of making their PB&J sandwich out of normal bread, use a cookie cutter to form fun shapes! Make their dinner look like a type of animal or fun design. They'll be encouraged to eat right away!
-
Step 2
Involve the kids. If a kid is helping you make the dinner or snack, they'll feel proud of themselves for a good job. This will make them happy to eat their creation!
-
Step 3
Ask for their opinion. Sometimes kids simply don't like what you're making for dinner. Let them come up with an idea and go through with it. They will then feel better about eating.
-
Step 4
Give them choices. If a kid doesn't like a certain side dish, allow them to choose something else, such as applesauce. Make sure it's healthy and only give them one choice. If they know they have alternatives, this will help.
-
Step 5
Praise their appetite. If they eat a great deal of their meal without fussiness, make sure they are praised! They will be happy to hear how proud of them you are and this will also encourage good eating behavior.

Step 6
Dessert. Every now and then make sure there is a reward in sight to such good eaters. Surprise them with some cookies after dinner! They'll be sure to clean their plates more often than you think!
