Things You'll Need:
- eBay Account
- Access to thrift shops, consignment stores, garage sales
- Time
-
Step 1
General rules for selling any athletic apparel: look for performance fabrics (moisture wicking fabrics) such as like Nike Dri fit, Adidas Climacool, Nike Sphere Dry, etc. These fabrics keep you cool and wick moisture away from the skin.
-
Step 2
Explore your local thrift stores, consignment stores, and garage sales. (See my other eHow articles for specifics.) Thrift stores can be a gold mine for finding gently used clothing and a very low price. Sometimes, you will even find clothing that is brand new, never worn, and still has the tags. Thrift stores are a major source of inventory for many eBay sellers.
-
Step 3
Look for tennis apparel at off-price stores such as TJ Maxx, Marshalls, and Ross. Check the clearance racks. Also check major sports retailers such as the Sports Authority and Dick's. Watch for clearance items.
-
Step 4
Go to garage sales in golf/tennis communities. These can also be a gold mine. Many affluent women play tennis as more of a hobby, and their tennis wardrobes are for socializing so the clothing is hardly worn. Watch for large neighborhood garage sales in tennis communities during the year.
-
Step 5
In my experience, women’s items are more easy to find than men's tennis items. Look for major brands including Nike, Nike Dri Fit, Nike Seamless, Nike Sphere, Under Armour, Adidas, Avia, Tail, New Balance, Jamie Sadock, and Ellesse.
-
Step 6
Look for the tennis kirts with the shorts made into them under the skirt. These are really the only kind that sell very well on eBay. These are very popular – in fact, they can go for between $25-$35 used. Look for these in the women's and children’s or girl’s section at thrift stores. Sometimes, tennis skirts are confused with a girl's skirt and are placed in the wrong section of the store.
-
Step 7
Look for tennis dresses. These can be in the women's dresses, kid’s section,or sleepwear sections of thrift stores. I've found them in very odd places so you just have to look around. Same rules for dresses: performance fabrics, name brands. Look for the dresses with the built-in shelf bra.
-
Step 8
Also keep your eyes out for tennis tops. Same rules - performance fabrics, name brands. Tops with the built in shelf-bra are good sellers. Look for vibrant colors and unique styles.
-
Step 9
Don't forget warm up suits. The best seller here is a Jamie Sadock warm-up. Jamie Sadock apparel has very bold, vibrant colors and patterns. These suits retail for over $200. (I once found one for $8 in a thrift store and it sold for $140 on eBay.) If you only find a Jamie Sadock jacket, that is a good seller on its own.
-
Step 10
Remember, tennis is played year round, both indoors and out, in many countries around the world. For this reason, tennis apparel is a good seller year round on eBay.
