Feed a California King Snake
Feed a California King Snake

Easy info on feeding your California king snake.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Mice- Preferably Pre-Killed Frozen
  • Extra Tools- Small Box
  • Extra Tools- Seperate Cage
  • Extra Tools- Bowl warm water
  1. Step 1

Purchase Mice- They can be pre-killed frozen mice delivered by mail- This is the preferred method. Or they can be live mice, but live mice may injure your snake!

  2. Step 2

If frozen, thaw out a mouse in a bowl of warm water. Then place the mouse in the cage with the snake. *Some recommend using a seperate container for feeding so that the snake does confuse handling time for feeding time*

  3. Step 3

If your snake will not eat a live or dead mouse, some suggest placing a cardboard box with a hole in the top into the cage with the mouse in it. Some snakes will enjoy going into the hole to eat.

  4. Step 4

Watch your snake, especially if you feed a live mouse to make sure the snake is not injured!

  5. Step 5

Feed the adult snake every seven to ten days. A large snake can even eat up to two large mice in seven to ten days.

Tips & Warnings
  • Watch your snake for injuries that may occur during feeding with live mice.
  • Feed mice that are appropriate in size to your snake. Young snakes will require pinkie mice.
  • Contact a veterinarian with any questions or concerns you may have regarding your pet snake.
  • Always be cautious when handling and feeding snakes.
