Things You'll Need:
- Flour
- butter
- salt/pepper
- milk
- saucepan
- biscuits-optional
- fried steak--optional
-
Step 1
The first thing you need to do is gather your ingredients. You will need four tablespoons of butter and four tablespoons of flour. You will also need salt and pepper to taste and two and a half cups of milk. A large saucepan will also be needed.
-
Step 2
Place the four tablespoons of butter in the saucepan and melt on low heat. Once melted, add the flour, salt and pepper. Stir until smooth.
-
Step 3
Next, gradually add the milk until all the ingredients are stirred. Continue to heat to a boiling, stirring constantly. This will keep the gravy from becoming clumpy and sticking to the pan. Once it is as thick as you want it, it is ready for serving.
-
Step 4
Serve over hot biscuits, fried steak or any other food of your choosing.

on 8/5/2009 OH my god, homemade gravy is so delicious. Put some fancy homemade or artisan sausage in it. I would like to drink it from a glass sometimes :):)

on 5/17/2009 I love white gravy. Well, I like it with pepper in it. I have a recipe for it in my articles, but it has bacon grease in it, and its used mostly just for biscuits. Thanks for sharing this recipe!!
