Knowing how to apply for a Section 8 in Oklahoma will help you understand and better navigate the process. The Section 8 is done online to avoid any obstacles such as the lack of landlords that participate in the program and to help people that are unaware of what the different subsidized programs are. Section 8 is an application for subsidized housing for those that need a low-income rental. Government agencies such as HUD and local housing authorities do work with the Section 8. The program is funded privately.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Online application
  • Computer
  1. Step 1

Use a debit or credit card to pay the $10 registration fee. This allows you access to the application and low-income housing. If you do not have a debit or credit card, select the money order payment to proceed.

  2. Step 2

Complete the first section that requests all information about your credit cards and debit cards. It is important that you enter all cards that are issued with your name on them. Any information omitted can be grounds for denial of the Section 8 application.

  3. Step 3

Complete the section of the application for your gross income. This is important so the housing authority can calculate how much the vouchers will be after you find housing. They will pay any rent that is over 30 percent of your adjusted monthly income. They do have a limit of how much you can pay for rent. If you find something over the guidelines, you are responsible for the extra payments.

  4. Step 4

Check the status of the application after two business days to see if you were accepted. Besides seeing the approval or denial online, you will receive a letter in the mail as well.

  5. Step 5

After approval, you will receive the voucher so you can find housing. There are sections on the website that you can look through to find available rentals or property owners.

Tips & Warnings
  • Have all your credit and debit cards handy before starting.
  • Submit the applications before the deadlines. The deadlines change all the time.
