How to Make Slip Knots for a Rope Ladder

If you are just getting into the sport of climbing, then you probably need to learn how to tie a slip knot, which is used to tie gear to an anchor or tie off point. Keep reading to learn how to tie a slipknot.

Things You'll Need:

    Tying a Slip Knot

  1. Step 1

    Start with a piece of rope.

  2. Step 2

    Fold the rope in half with the loop, or fold, facing down.

  3. Step 3

    Pull the arch of the loop up behind the parallel pieces of rope.

  4. Step 4

    Pull the left side through the right loop if you want the left side to be the side that slips. If you want the right side to slip, then pull the right side through the left loop.

  5. Step 5

    Tighten your slip knot by hand, making sure that it tightens evenly.
