If you are an avid deer hunter, you most likely would like to have a deer stand for when you are needing to stalk your prey from the trees. The problem with many portable deer stands is that they are expensive. Building one yourself can save you a lot of money. A deer stand is a must if you wish to get that one shot to fame.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • 2 Bent slotted angles
  • Straight slotted metal bar
  • Screws
  • Screwdriver
  • 2 clamps
  • Nuts and bolts
  • Wrench set
  • 2 wood piece about 12 by 10 inches
  • Cotton or foam
  • Vinyl
  • Small nails and a hammer
  • 2 straps made out of leather or cloth
  • Gloves
  1. Step 1

Take one wood piece and place it on the ground. Nail the vinyl in on one side after folding the vinyl over. Folding the vinyl under the nails makes it stronger, once that is done put enough padding material as you can on the wood piece. Now take the attached vinyl over it.

  2. Step 2

Stuff all the padding in it and nail the vinyl around, with the vinyl folded over where the nails are supposed to go. Once that is achieved the top of the seat is ready. Then do the same with the other one that will become the back. Once you have both done go on to the base of the seat.

  3. Step 3

Take the two bent slotted angles and place them on the back of the seat so the seat sticks out on the side about 3 inches. The seat will be used with the wider side towards you. Bolt in the two angles with the joint of the angles level with the back of the seat.

  4. Step 4

Bolting the seat assures that the angles are securely in place against the wood. Now you are ready to put the supporting bar in place. Let the front of the seat be at your front when it is straight side up. Now the straight slotted bar goes from the front of the seat to the angle bar at the bottom. This will give support when the seat is being used, so there is no sagging.

  5. Step 5

Bolt the bar to the seat and you are ready to go on to the back support. Put the 2 clamps in such a way that they are towards the top of the back support in the unpadded side so nails could go and hold the back in place. The back support will only have to hang from the tree.

  6. Step 6

Now that you have both ready, try them out on a tree at home, put some real heavy duty nails in the tree and put the seat and the back rest on and then take the 2 straps and go around the tree with them, attaching them in a manner that takes some of the pressure off the nails on the tree.

  7. Step 7

When everything is tested take it down and you are ready. Clean up the mess you might have made.

Tips & Warnings
  • Always check that the angles are in the back.
  • You will be working with tools so be careful and don’t hurt yourself.
