    • 2

Scan the image you want for your design on your scanner and save it to your computer. Make sure you name is something like "Pattern for Flower" or something that will accurately describe the pattern.

    • 3

Open your print program. Find the scanned pattern and click on print so you can print the pattern on the grid paper. When you have finished printing the pattern, use your pencil to shade the pattern where you want solid squares. These blocks will serve as your solid leaves, eyes and letters for your project. Leave blank squares where you want a void in the pattern. Blocks where the pattern should be white should be left blank.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make sure you begin with a simple pattern and work your way up to the more complicated ones.

  • Try to keep your rows and columns equal in size.

  • Do not use half squares. Only use full filled or voided squares in your pattern.
