Many women wear makeup on a daily basis. However, it’s very easy to get in a makeup rut and end up using the same neutrals and browns day in and day out. If you’re wanting to give your makeup a little kick of color, you can do exotic makeup by modifying a few steps in your routine. Using bold colors and blending the makeup properly may take some time to learn. However, once you’ve mastered it, you’ll have a much more versatile makeup routine.

Things You'll Need:

  • Foundation
  • Highlighter
  • Eye shadow base
  • Eye liner
  • Mascara
  • Eye shadows
  • Lip gloss
  • Lipstick
  • Eyelash curler
  1. Step 1

Apply your foundation. Whether you’re doing everyday makeup or going all out and doing an exotic look, it’s important to put on foundation. Foundation creates an even skin tone and accentuates any other makeup you may use.

  2. Step 2

Highlight your cheek bones. Use a powder highlighter to give your cheekbones a glow. Apply the highlighter on your cheekbones and apply a complementary blush to the apples of your cheeks. Remember, the goal isn’t to look sparkly. It’s to give your face a healthy glow.

  3. Step 3

Apply an eye shadow base. Since you will be using bold colors to create your exotic look, it’s important to apply an eye shadow base so your eye makeup doesn’t fade. Use a makeup brush or your finger to apply the eye shadow base to your eyelid. It’s best if the eye shadow base you use complements the shadows you will be wearing.

  4. Step 4

Create your eyes. The key to exotic makeup is bold eye shadow colors. Since different colors flatter different skin tones, it’s important to find out what colors look best on you. If you’re not sure what will look best on you, head to your store and ask the makeup artists what colors will complement your skin. If you’re using a bold color, it’s important to know that you need to have a subdued color. For example, if you have purple eye shadow as a wash, you should use a dark gray or black shadow in your crease. Highlight your brow bone with a champagne color. This same formulation can be used with blues, greens, golds and teals. Reapply the colors and blend until you get your desired look.

  5. Step 5

Finish your eye makeup. Once your eye shadow is complete, it’s time to finish up your eye makeup. Line your eyes with eyeliner and curl your lashes. Follow up with one coat of mascara. If you desire thicker lashes, allow the first coat to dry and apply a second coat of mascara.

  6. Step 6

Apply a complimentary lip color. Depending on what eye shadow combinations you are using, your lip color will vary. Smoky eyes look great with nudes, while teal eye makeup looks are complemented by peach lips. Apply your lipstick or lip gloss. Remember that when you’re experimenting with exotic makeup looks, there’s one key thing to remember. practice makes perfect.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don’t play up all the features at once. If you’re doing bright eye shadow on your eyes, don’t wear a bright lipstick. It will look amateur and clownish. Instead, opt for a nude or light pink lip color.
