Instructions

    • 1

Attach the window shutters together in a four-sided box shape. Line up the long sides and attach with existing hinges, brads or L-shaped brackets on the inside of the shutters. If using brads, apply wood glue on the window shutter edges first. Working on the inside of the window shutter box can be a little tight, so if attaching L-brackets, you will need a short screwdriver.

    • 2

Apply wood glue to the top edges of the attached shutters. Decide on a top for your window shutter end table--either an old cupboard door, an old tabletop or a square of wood larger than the window shutter base.

    • 3

Lay the chosen top for the window shutter end table on a flat surface with the wrong side up. Turn the window shutter base upside down and center it on the back of the tabletop. Connect the table top to the window shutter base using L-brackets. Allow the glue to dry.

    • 4

Spray-paint the entire window shutter end table, including under the tabletop, using whatever color paint you choose. This will also cover any brackets or brad heads that might be noticeable.

    • 5

Sand and distress the edges and surface of the window shutter end table. Pay special attention to areas that would naturally wear over time.

    • 6

Wipe the table down with a tack cloth to remove all sanding dust.

    • 7

Spray the entire painted surface of the window shutter end table with a clear sealer. Allow to dry.

Tips & Warnings

  • Experiment with different paint techniques, such as a crackle finish or a dry brush application, or if you like the existing finish, leave it as is.
