Drag queen shows are the rave in many major cities throughout the United States. Both men and women find the atmosphere and performances at these establishments fun and entertaining. A drag queen is a man who dresses as a woman. He can either do it for his own personal reasons or he can be a drag queen performer. Regardless of the circumstances, dressing as a drag queen is all about making a statement. Heavy makeup, dramatic hair and outrageous outfits are necessary if you’re going to be a drag queen.

Difficulty: Moderately Challenging
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Razor
  • Shaving cream
  • Moisturizer
  • False eyelashes
  • Eye shadow base
  • Eyelash adhesive
  • Blush
  • Mascara
  • Eyeliner
  • Lipstick
  • Eye shadow
  • Makeup primer
  1. Step 1

Shave any facial hair. It’s important to shave your face and make it smooth before applying makeup. Be careful not to knick yourself because it will cause cakiness when you apply your foundation.

  2. Step 2

Moisturize your skin. Apply your favorite moisturizer to your skin and allow it to absorb for approximately 10 minutes. Once that is done, apply a primer such as "Smashbox’s Photo Finish" primer or "MAC Prep and Prime."

  3. Step 3

Apply face makeup. Once your primer is applied, it’s time to apply foundation. Use a makeup brush, sponge or your fingers and generously apply the foundation to your face. Apply concealer to the areas that need a little extra help such as under your eyes or blemishes. Apply a loose powder generously to set your makeup.

  4. Step 4

Apply blush. Use your blush brush and generously apply your blush to the apples of your cheeks. Keep in mind that drag queen makeup is bold so rather then opting for a light pink blush, choose a bold colored blush.

  5. Step 5

Create the eyes. Drag queen eye makeup is all about making a statement and should be able to be seen from across the room. Apply an eye shadow base to your eyelid and then generously apply a wash of eye shadow over the lid. You don’t want to be subtle. Apply a highlighter to your brow bone and then use your angled brush to apply a darker shade in the crease of your eye. If you desire more color, continue to repeat these steps until you achieve your desired look.

  6. Step 6

Apply false eyelashes. Choose long and thick false eyelashes for your look. You can even choose glittery eyelashes. Try your eyelashes on before you apply the adhesive. If they are too long, carefully trim the ends until they fit your lashes. Apply the adhesive to the lashes and carefully put them on your eyes. If you have light colored lashes, apply a thin coat of mascara to create darker lashes.

  7. Step 7

Create the pout. Line your lips with lip liner. If your lips are small, you may want to line them slightly outside the lip line to create fuller lips. Once you’ve filled in your lips, generously apply your favorite lipstick. For a glossier look, apply lip gloss on top of the lipstick.

Tips & Warnings
  • Keep an extra set of eyelashes on hand just in case you accidentally ruin the pair you have.
  • Don’t forget to line your lips. Since you are using a bold shade you must complete this step otherwise your lipstick may smear or run.

on 12/14/2008 Drag Queen make-up is an art form that I am not sure translates well to mainstream applications, it takes dedication and years of practice even to understand. I find your article ambiguous in direction and lacking crucial detail..

I am sorry, I am sure you are a fine commercial make-up artist, you may just be leading people down a dead end road with out a map.
