Step 1
Condition your body. Wrestling requires an enormous amount of physical strength. The short amount of time spent on the mat can be a brutal test to one’s body. Begin running and strength training with pushups and sit ups. A strong body is a necessary for being a wrestler.
-
Step 2
Learn the basic rules of pee wee wrestling. Point scoring is the key rule. Know that a takedown, near fall and reversal are worth two points, and an escape is worth one. While they are illegal, holds will cost you one or two points.
-
Step 3
Experiment with how a pee wee wrestling match works. A wrestling match is a unique one-on-one competition that looks generally confusing without this knowledge. Practice with a partner by having both pee wee wrestlers starting on their feet facing each other. Practice also by having one start on his hands and knees with the other wrestler behind.
-
Step 4
Develop a takedown strategy. Taking an opponent to the mat is the quickest way to score points and a very big part of gaining an advantage over the other wrestler. Keep close to your opponent and shoot for his legs, which will knock him off balance to begin.
-
Step 5
Practice playing defense to avoid being scored on. Pee wee wrestlers need to know that they cannot win a match simply by trying to score points. Keep your distance and tie up your opponent’s upper body, when he tries to take you down.
