Make Corsages

Making your own corsage for a wedding, prom, ball or other engagement is easy. It saves a bunch of money on hiring a florist and best of all, you get to create your own look whether it's tailored and sophisticated or robust and ornate.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Odd number of flowers
  • Baby's breath, grasses or ferns
  • Stem wrap tape
  • Wire cutters
  • Hot glue gun
  • Ribbons
  • Long straight-pins with pearl heads
  • Scissors
  • Corsage bracelet

    Fresh Flower Corsages

  1. Step 1

Protect the stems of top-heavy blooms by supporting the stems with stem wrap. If they need extra support or more length, include your desired length of floral wire then wrap the stem.

  2. Step 2

Gather just the flowers into the layout you like. Odd numbers of blooms are more aesthetically pleasing than even numbers and it makes the corsage look more full.

  3. Step 3

Add accent flowers like baby's breath or other small blooms sparingly between the large flowers.

  4. Step 4

Finish with leaves and other greens on and around the stems of the flowers. Add ribbons or lace if you'd like. Secure everything together with floral tape.

  5. Step 5

Affix the corsage to the shoulder of the garment using the pearl headed straight-pins. If it is a wrist corsage, affix the arrangement to the corsage bracelet using wire.

  6. Silk Flower Corsages

  7. Step 1

Cut the stems down to your desired length with wire cutters. If the flower comes with a bulky, thick stem, you can cut it off at the base of the flower and make a new one with stem wrap and floral wire.

  8. Step 2

Lay out the silk flowers however you would like. Again, odd numbers of blooms look best.

  9. Step 3

Use hot glue to secure filler flowers like baby's breath. If they come with wire stems, the stems can be wrapped around the stems of the larger flowers.

  10. Step 4

Hot glue or wrap wire stems of leaves or other greens around the stems of the large flowers. Add ribbons or lace trim if you'd like.

  11. Step 5

Affix the corsage to the shoulder of the garment using the pearl headed straight-pins. If it is a wrist corsage, affix the arrangement to the corsage bracelet using wire or hot glue.

Tips & Warnings
  • Corsage bracelets can be purchased from florists, craft shops or on the internet. They come in a variety of designs from rhinestones to pearls to plain elastic.
