Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Bulbs for white lilies
  • Gardening tools
  1. Step 1

Start to prepare a yard for an outdoor wedding by planting bulbs for lilies the fall before the summer wedding. Lilies look spectacular in a raised flower bed or planted directly in the ground. You may also wish to plant some bulbs in containers to use on a porch or deck.

  2. Step 2

Add bulb fertililizer to the soil before covering the bulbs with dirt. Step down on the dirt to remove air bubbles in the area.

  3. Step 3

Water the bulbs well and allow them to rest over the winter. You may want to mark the area where you planted the lilies to make sure you do not run them over with the lawn mower in the spring.

  4. Step 4

Plant enough bulbs so the white lilies make a dramatic statement in the yard. A grouping of white lilies adds a unique and very "bridal" look to any yard being used for an outdoor wedding.

  5. Step 5

If you know the colors of the wedding theme you may want to also plant some lilies in those colors. You may also try to plant some bulbs in the shape of the initials of the bride and groom for an unusual accent in the yard.

Tips & Warnings
  • Lilies look most dramatic when planted in large groupings.
  • Plant enough bulbs to allow for those few that will not bloom.
  • If you did not get around to planting the bulbs for the lilies in the fall, plant them in the spring as soon as the earth is able to be worked for planting.
  • Plant lilies in soil that drains naturally. Lilies do not grow well in extremely damp soil.
  • Plant bulbs in an area that gets strong sun.
