How to Make Brown Eyes Stand Out

Like any other eye color, in order to make brown eyes stand out, it’s imperative that you put some work into it. Certain colors that look great on light blue or green eyes won’t necessarily look flattering on an individual with brown eyes. While many individuals may consider brown eyes to be a typical feature, they are anything but that. Having brown eyes to make up opens the door for a variety of different looks.

Things You'll Need:

  • Plum-colored mascara
  • White eyeliner
  • Plum eyeliner
  • Gold eyeliner
  • Plum eye shadows
  • Dark gold eye shadows
  • Tweezers
  1. Step 1

Use colored eye shadows. An individual with brown eyes can wear just about any color of the rainbow when it comes to eye shadow. Plums, golds, greens and even blues will flatter brown eyes. Since the dark eyes contrast with bold colors, they allow versatility when it comes to which colors an individual wants to wear.

  2. Step 2

Create a different kind of smoky eye. A typical grayish or black smoky eye can look dull on an individual with brown eyes. The dark shadows and the dark eyes are too much when put together. Instead of opting for a dark gray or black smoky eye, try a gold smoky eye. Use a light gold shadow as a highlighter and a deeper gold on the lid as a wash. You can use either a deep matte brown or dark shimmery brown to contour the eye. The gold shadows will bring out the gold flecks that many brown-eyed women have.

  3. Step 3

Try a different mascara. Black or brown mascara looks good on brown-eyed beauties. However, plum-colored mascara really makes brown eyes pop. While you may be hesitant to try plum-colored mascara, it is important to know that the plum color doesn’t show true to color unless you are standing close-up to a person. Otherwise, it appears to be dark brown or black.

  4. Step 4

Use white eyeliner. If you are creating a heavier makeup look and you feel that your eyes are looking rather bland, try using white eyeliner. Line your waterline with the liner. It will brighten up your eyes and make them stand out, especially if you have other dark makeup on.

  5. Step 5

Keep your brows in shape. If you have brown eyes, it’s quite likely that you have darker hair. If you have dark hair, it’s very important to keep your brows in shape. If you aren’t crazy about tweezing, schedule regular appointments to get your brows waxed or threaded. This will make your overall eye area look cleaner, and it will make eye shadow application much easier. Remember, experimentation yields results, so don’t be afraid to try out different colors.

Tips & Warnings
  • Try a silver or champagne-colored eyeliner instead of the white eyeliner. These colors will also brighten up brown eyes.
  • Don’t forget to keep those brows maintained. Scruffy-looking brows can take away from a person’s overall appearance. In addition, they become more noticeable if an individual is wearing eye makeup.
