How to Take Inexpensive Trips From Buenos Aires

Buenos Aires is one of the few remaining places in the world that can be considered a budget travel destination. If you are planning to visit, you might want to take advantage of some of the fascinating side trips, which can be enjoyed at a reasonable price. With the US dollar now at the equivalent value of 3.03225 Argentina pesos, and with most prices being fairly low, there's much you can do on a tight budget.

    How to Take a Side Trip to Colonia

  1. Step 1

    Book a flight to Buenos Aires.

  2. Step 2

    Check the schedule for the ferry to Colonia del Sacramento, Uruguay. The ride takes under an hour and round trip fares are inexpensive. They even include a sandwich, which is more than you'll get on an airplane. With the U.S. dollar exchange rate currently equal to 19.23 Uruguay Peso's, round trip comes to about $40.

  3. Step 3

    Arrive at the ferry station as early as possible. Remember to bring your passport.

  4. Step 4

    Stroll through the cobblestone streets while you enjoy the cool ocean breezes.

    Find a tourist office in Buenos Aires

  7. Step 2

    Book an airfare/ hotel package. It's usually cheaper to book this package while in Buenos Aires than it is from the States. If you are on a tight budget, and don't mind long bus rides, you can take a sleeper bus from Buenos Aires.

  8. Step 3

    Take a boat ride under the falls! The cost is $15. Worth every penny!

  9. Step 4

    Eat at Bufalo Branco Churrascaria, which is considered to be one of the best places for churrasco, a grilled meat. Full dinners cost about $13 US per person.

  10. Step 5

    Stay at the Continental Inn Hotel. rates are as low as $84 US!

Tips & Warnings
  • Make sure to take a Spanish phrase book
  • Allow ample time to board the ferry to Colonia. You will need to go through customs.
  • If you want to go to the Brazilian side of Iguacu Falls, you will need a Visa. the cost is $100. It's not really worth it.
