Make an Origami Pine Tree

Paper crafts like origami and modern paper folding are a great craft to do with kids and a fun way to turn ordinary paper into works of art. This origami pine tree can be used for many projects, from scrap books and photo albums to Christmas decorations and ornaments. Use these simple and traditional paper pine trees as unique gift cards and tags or add some glitter and a piece of string to make homemade Christmas ornaments for your Christmas tree.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Origami paper
  • Printer paper
  • Card stock
  • Magazine pages
  • Scissors
  • Clear tape
  • Hole punch
  • Ribbon or thread
  • Glitter
  • Glue
  1. Step 1

Adjust your paper into a square. Printer and notebook paper will need to be cut down into a same-sided square. You can do this by folding diagonally into a triangle and cutting off the excess paper. Origami paper will already be pre-cut.

  2. Step 2

Fold the left point in and down so that the top left square side lines up parallel to the center crease. Do this with the right point as well. You will have what looks like an upside down kite. Turn the paper over.

  3. Step 3

Fold the bottom two points up and in so that the bottom left and right square sides line up parallel to the center crease. Turn the paper over once more.

  4. Step 4

Fold the bottom point up, like a newspaper, to meet the top point. You will now have a two-layered triangle.

  5. Step 5

Fold the top point, first layer only, three quarters of the way down, so that the bottom tail goes slightly past the bottom of the triangle.

  6. Step 6

Fold the bottom tip up in half, so that it lines up with the bottom fold. This fold will create your tree stem.

  7. Step 7

Crease all of your edges down as flat as possible and turn your paper over to reveal your traditional pine tree.

Tips & Warnings
  • Use tape to secure the loose flaps on the bottom side of the tree.
  • Decorate with glitter and punch holes through the steps to create homemade ornaments at Christmas time.
