A caterpillar craft that is made from an egg carton is not only fun and easy to make, but it help to teach your children about recycling. By using the empty egg carton for a new purpose, they will start to think outside the box, and realize that things that they thought were garbage could possibly be put to a new use.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  1. Step 1

Using the scissors, cut out 4-8 of the individual cups from the egg carton. You want to leave a small bit of the area around them, so that they can be stapled together later.

  2. Step 2

Staple the egg carton cups together in a straight line, one right behind the other. You can also use tape to hook the egg carton cups together if you like. When you are done, place them face down on a flat surface, with the humps in the air. You should begin to see the shape of your caterpillar.

  3. Step 3

Using the hole puncher, punch two holes toward the top of one of the egg carton cups that are on the end. This will be the cup that serves as the caterpillar's head, and the holes will be where the antenna are inserted.

  4. Step 4

Decorate the body and face of the caterpillar with markers, to give it a more lifelike appearance. The kids could even use macaroni noodles to make the feet if they wanted to get creative.

  5. Step 5

Thread the two pipe cleaners through each hole in the head of the caterpillar to make the antenna, and your project will be finished. You should now have a caterpillar that has been made from a recycled egg carton.

Tips & Warnings
  • Let your children be creative, and give them enough time to decorate their caterpillar.
  • Incorporate a lesson about recycling into this craft, to make it a learning experience.
