If you feel like your hair needs a deep-cleaning, a clarifying hair mask can do the job. These hair treatments involve cleaning away excess oil and debris from your scalp and hair, leaving hair fresher and healthier as a result. You don't have to spend a fortune on hair masks. In fact, you can make your own homemade clarifying hair mask, using all natural ingredients.

Difficulty: Moderately Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Dried thyme
  • Egg
  • Lemon juice

    Thyme Clarifying Solution

  1. Step 1

Fill a pot with 2 cups water. Add 8 tbsp. of dried thyme to the pot.

  2. Step 2

Boil the water and thyme for 10 to 15 minutes.

  3. Step 3

Strain the mixture and allow it to cool to room temperature.

  4. Step 4

Wash your hair as you normally would, and then apply half the thyme solution to your hair while it is still damp. Completely cover your hair and scalp with the solution.

  5. Step 5

Leave the solution in your hair. Do not rinse or shampoo directly afterwards. The thyme will work on your scalp and hair over the next several hours as a clarifying solution. Use the remaining solution for a follow-up treatment in 1 to 2 weeks.

  6. Lemon Egg Hair Mask

  7. Step 1

Beat 1 egg in a small bowl.

  8. Step 2

Add 8 drops of fresh lemon juice to the bowl. It's best to use juice from a fresh lemon but you can also use bottled lemon juice if necessary.

  9. Step 3

Continue to beat the solution until it is thoroughly mixed.

  10. Step 4

Apply the lemon and egg mixture to your hair, covering it completely from your scalp to your ends. Let the mixture remain on your hair for 20 minutes.

  11. Step 5

Rinse the mixture out of your hair and then shampoo as you normally would.

Tips & Warnings
  • For a quick clarifying rinse for blond hair, add a few drops of lemon juice to water and rinse your hair with the mixture. For brunettes or red-heads, add a few drops of vinegar to water and use as a rinse.
