Things You'll Need:
- Flash Drive
- SD Card
- Video
-
Step 1
Sign up for a You Tube account if you do not have one already. You can skip this step and login with your user name and password if you already have an account. There is no cost to set up an account and video production and uploading is not a requirement for membership.
-
Step 2
Click the yellow "upload" button in the far right corner of your computer screen. This will get the process started and open up the video information screen.
-
Step 3
Give your video upload a title and description. This is very important. Use relevant keywords and keep it to less than 10 words, if possible. You want others on the web to be able to find your video so use as many words that you can think of that relate to your video. Doing this will help increase your rank in search engines.
-
Step 4
Fill in the tags section with words that relate to your video. For example, if it is about cats, use "pets, cat, kitty, feline or Morris." Use as many words as you can think of and separate them (with a comma and/or a space).
-
Step 5
Choose your Broadcast Options, public or private. Public will allow everyone to view your video and you may gain more traffic by doing this, and Private will allow only users ("friends") you specify to view your upload. This is good for confidential material, training sessions, weddings and other events.
-
Step 6
Fill in the date (optional) and map options (if you would like to show your location). This system uses Google maps to point to your location. This is not recommended for home users.
-
Step 7
Select sharing options. This list is quite extensive and you can customize it to your needs. If needs change, you can go back and change the settings in your account later. These include comments, ratings, voting, embedding, and even syndication to devices such as cell phones and mobile TV. Click the green radio button next to your choice.
-
Step 8
Click "upload a video" and then "browse" for the file in your computer. Videos to upload are generally found in "My Pictures" or "My Videos" unless you saved them in a specific folder. You may wish to click on the file first to ensure it is the correct one.
-
Step 9
Wait for the video to upload or for any error messages to appear. Be sure your video is in the correct format which can be MPEG (DivX and xVid), AVI, MOV, or WMV and not over 100 MB when downloading. If it is not the right format, there are converters you can download that will help convert it into acceptable You Tube formats.
