Create a Stunning Border of Red Bee Balm

Red bee balm is a very dramatic plant that makes a stunning border along a fence, or anywhere in the yard that you want to add some drama. This plant grows tall and will make a strong visual impact in a border. It is a hardy plant that will provide abundant blooms and a blast of red to your yard.

Difficulty: Moderate
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • Red bee balm plants
  • Gardening tools
  • Water
  1. Step 1

Plant the bee balm as early as possible in the season, so you'll have flowers for much of the summer.

  2. Step 2

Contrast this plant with other brightly colored flowers for a strong impact. Red bee balm looks wonderful next to day lilies in yellow and orange or next to gold daisies.

  3. Step 3

Plant some low-growing white petunias in front of the bee balm to add contrast.

  4. Step 4

Add a "goth" look to your border by mixing in some deep-purple or black iris plants with the bee balm. This unusual look will attract a lot of attention.

  5. Step 5

Plant the border in an area visible from the windows in your home, and place a hummingbird feeder in the midst of the bee balm. The red color of the flowers will attract an abundance of hummingbirds.

Tips & Warnings
  • Don't plant red bee balm in front of plants that are short to the ground, or you will hide them. Red bee balm grows several feet tall.
