Market a Self Published Book

Being a self-published author can be rewarding, yet difficult as well. You must use your own personal networking skills to market your book to society. While you have ownership over copyrights, you have to rely on personal affiliations to spread the work of your published book instead of relying on using a marketing company that might be provided by a publishing center. Utilizing the Internet is also another great way to market a book too. There are tips that you can follow to market your own book, but you must have plenty of patience, and time to get the word out there.

Instructions

    • 1

Publish your book for free at Lulu.com. They allow you to publish your book and allow you to get an ISBN number so that it is listed with the Library of Congress. Other bookstores and libraries will have access to your book if they would want to order it. Your book will also be listed for sale online at Amazon.com and other online bookstores as well. List the link to your book in email and message board signatures.

    • 2

Participate in book signings or book readings at your local library. Send a press release to your local newspaper to let others know that you have published your book. Donate a few copies of your book to local libraries in your area such as school libraries, college libraries, and public libraries.

    • 3

Create a business card that features a title or titles of your most recent books. Make sure there is a link to a website where others can purchase your book. Include any contact information such as an address, email address, or phone number where you would like people to reach you. Hand out business cards to libraries, bookstores, book fairs, or with other writers and publishers at conventions.

    • 4

Chat with other writers at online message board forums. Include a link to your book in your signature line. Share writing tips with other writings and let them know about some of your books that you have published. Network with other writers to see how and where they publish their books as well.

Offer to speak at organization meetings, schools, or anywhere else that you can offer advice about your writing endeavors or personal life. Have copies of your book available for purchase or even donate them to libraries of schools that you may speak at.

Tips & Warnings

  • Do not expect results right away. It takes time to market a self-published book. Make plenty of connections and use your networking skills to advertise your book.
