Instructions

    • 1
Two wine bottles arranged to be drawn, with one slightly behind the other.

Taking a picture of what you are drawing can often help. While an image is not always best to draw from, it also gives you the ability to take what you are drawing with you and can perhaps get a different perspective than what you would get sitting in front of the item. Taking pictures also lets you try many arrangements of the bottles so that you can more easily choose the arrangement you like best.

    • 2
Even the wine stopper has a curve to it in this drawing.

Begin by drawing the outline of the bottle closest to the front of the bottle arrangement. Do not worry about adding any detail, just try to outline the general shape of the bottle. Remember that bottles are usually round, so make sure to curve the bottom of the bottle and the mouth to give the illusion of roundness.

    • 3
Do not worry about drawing extra lines.

Draw the full outline of the second bottle, even if it is behind the other bottle. This allows you to get the correct shape of the bottle without having to guess where the second bottle ends behind the first bottle. Use short strokes to get the shape of the bottle that you want, and use lightly drawn lines.

    • 4
Extra lines around the neck of the second bottle and the lines meant to be "behind" the first bottle have been erased.

Use your eraser after you have the bottles outlined in a way that is pleasing to you. Erase the lines of the second bottle that are meant to be behind the first. Also, look back over your outline and erase any extra lines, or extra thick lines, that you believe do not belong.

    • 5
The outline of the stickers on each bottle have been added, as well as the wrapping on top of the second bottle.

Fill in the outline of some of the details of each bottle. Refer back to the actual bottles to see where details show up on each bottle or come up with your own details. For instance, if you do not care for the sticker on the front of the actual bottle, you could draw your own or leave it off completely.

    • 6
The lines of the bottle have been outlined, as well as some of the details.

Go back over the lines you have made to make each line darker when you are satisfied with the placement of the lines you have drawn. This helps to define the lines for when you add the little details.

    • 7
These bottles are shaded on the same side as if the light is coming in from the right side.

Add the final details to finish your drawing. Add the words on the bottle as well as some shading. Shading gives the illusion of light and can help give your bottles the appearance of a round shape.
