How to Decorate Church Pews for Weddings

A well decorated church pew for a wedding can make the church look not only beautiful but magical. You can decorate the pews to look elegant at a very reasonable cost, which for most couples is a consideration. If you follow the steps here, your relatives and friends will think you had a professional designer do the work.

Things You'll Need

  • White silk flowers (such as roses and stephanotis)
  • Sprigs of baby's breath
  • 1 (25-yard) roll of white tulle
  • White bows (large)
  • Pew decoration holders
  • Decide how many pews you want to decorate. Usually it's about the first six or so on each side of the church. These are the pews that are reserved for the bridal party and the bride's and groom's families.

  • Place one pew holder on each pew to be decorated, only on the side of the center isle.

  • Starting from the first pew attach the tulle to the holder with either ribbon or wire, tying it tightly so the tulle is gathered where the holders are. Let the tulle swag freely in between the pews. People will have to enter the pews from the other side.

  • Attach some of the flowers to the center of each large bow with ribbon or wire. Arrange the flowers so that they form a nice little bouquet.

  • Tie the bows to the pew decoration holders securely using the ribbon or wire. Make adjustments until you're satisfied with the results.

Tips & Warnings

  • Make it more romantic by placing candles on each pew with the bows. You can purchase special holders for this.
  • You can select colored flowers to match the bridal party colors.
  • If the bride is wearing ivory or beige, select bows and flowers to match.
