How to Indent Text Using HTML Programming

You can use HTML, a simple programming language, to indent the first line of all the text on your site that uses a particular tag. These steps present a very simple approach to customizing your page.

Instructions

1. Choose your text editor and the page on your PC that you will be editing. Place your cursor between the brackets for the tag of the text on your page that you choose to indent.

2. Type "text-indent:" and then press the space bar. Type the amount of space for the indent in pixels--for example, "30px" or a percentage of the window such as "10%." Your Web browser will indent the first line of all the text that uses the tag.

3. Verify that your text looks similar to the following:<STYLE>P{text-indent: 40px}</STYLE></HEAD>

4. Open a new Web browser, such as Internet Explorer, to verify that your Web page displays your font type correctly and that it has been correctly indented.
