Without a clean, new welding tip the MIG welder you are using will not produce the best welds possible. This is an easy and quick process and should be done on a regular basis to ensure everything on the MIG welder is working properly. Whether you are using flux-core or solid wire with gas, the tips of MIG welders wear out and get clogged with debris and slag. The wire will also smoothly flow out of a clean, new tip.

Difficulty: Easy
Instructions

Things You'll Need:

  • MIG welder
  • MIG pliers or round wire brush
  • Regular wire brush
  1. Step 1

Pull off the extreme outer nozzle of the MIG gun.

  2. Step 2

Clean the inside of this nozzle with MIG pliers or round wire brush.

  3. Step 3

Unscrew the welding tip. (If it is stuck, try using a pair of pliers lightly).

  4. Step 4

Clean the entire area with a regular wire brush.

  5. Step 5

Screw on the new tip finger tight, but snug.

  6. Step 6

    Replace the outer nozzle

Tips & Warnings
  • You may want to cut a couple inches off the end of the wire when replacing the tip, and expose new wire.
  • Unplug the welder before working on it.
